Sabtu lalu, saya antarkan anak untuk ujian masuk sebuah SMP swasta. Tes ini sebenarnya bukanlah tes masuk, tapi tes ini lebih menekankan pada placement test, tes penempatan, apakah anak saya berkualifikasi pada kelas ICP (International Cambridge Program) atau kelas regular. ICP adalah sebuah kerjasama sekolah tersebut dengan lembaga Cambridge International untuk penyelenggaran pembelajaran yang memakai sebuah kurikulum hasil perpaduan kurikulum sekolah (Kurikulum 2013) dengan program Cambridge. Materi yang diujikan adalah Matematika, Sains, Bahasa Inggris dan Bacaan Al-Qur’an. Saya tidak akan menulis soal ICP itu, tapi tentang kenapa penting sebuah sekolah membuat satu program yang khas dan bagaimana sekolah mengemas program yang dibuat dan mengkomunikasikan kepada masyarakat.
Dalam pandangan saya, pembahasan ini penting, khususnya untuk madrasah-madrasah yang kita bina dalam program Kemitraan Pendidikan Australia Indonesia ini, dan madrasah lain pada umumnya. Saya melihat banyak madrasah yang sudah membuat program khas dan sudah mengkomunikasikan kepada masyarakat, apalagi madrasah yang sudah maju dan bermutu. Tulisan ini saya maksudkan pada madrasah sasaran kita yang belum berada di kondisi itu. Sebenarnya, dari sisi program Kemitraan Pendidikan, kita sudah memfasilitasi mereka untuk membuat program khusus itu, dalam pelatihan Pengembangan Madrasah Efektif (PME). Dalam pelatihan itu, madrasah diajak untuk membangun mimpi besar, membangun “strategic intent”, tentang visi dan misi besar apa madrasah mereka akan dikembangkan dalam rentang waktu yang mereka perkirakan. Dalam mencapai visi itu, madrasah diajak mencari apa program besar yang bisa dijadikan momentum perubahan. Mereka kemudian diberi fasilitasi bagaimana membuat rencana dan tahapan-tahapan pencapaian mimpi besar tersebut, dalam pelatihan penyusunan perencanaan madrasah/RKM (school planning).
Sejalan dengan waktu, ketika saya berkunjung ke beberapa madrasah sasaran di pelosok-pelosok negeri ini, banyak dari mereka yang sudah membuat secara partisipatif program menuju mimpi besar mereka. Beberapa yang saya lihat adalah “Madrasah Bermutu”, “Madrasah multi media”, “Madrasah tahfidz Juz 30”, “Madrasah inklusi”, “Madrasah terintegrasi Pesantren”, dan seterusnya. Ini bagus. Madrasah sudah punya program strategis untuk menjadi lompatan besar menuju madrasah hebat. Benih yang ditanam sudah berkecambah di berbagai daerah, dalam kondisi sosial dan geografis yang berbeda. Mereka harus terus merawat benih itu hingga menjadi pohon besar yang akan memberikan manfaat bagi warga madrasah, khususnya anak-anak didik.
Program strategis itu sudah dikabarkan, sudah dikomunikasikan kepada masyarakat madrasah. Langkah selanjutnya bagi madrasah-madrasah itu adalah membuat program strategis itu betul-betul terlaksana dan mewarnai perjalanan madrasah. Madrasah harus mampu memenangi pertempuran-pertempuran kecil untuk berjihad dalam peperang yang besar: menjadi madrasah bermutu dan hebat. Kesuksesan program strategis tahap awal itu layaknya memenangkan pertempuran kecil. Keberhasilan itu akan mengangkat konfidensi tim madrasah, dan pada saat yang sama akan menunjukkan kepada masyarakat madrasah bahwa perubahan sedang berlangsung dan mewujudkan mimpi besar dalam proses konstruksi. Kemenangan pertempuran itu akan mampu meraih kepercayaan masyarakat. Indikasinya sederhana bila kepercayaan masyarakat itu sudah didapatkan: jumlah pendaftaran murid baru (enrolment) semakin meningkat di madrasah.
Program strategis seperti itu adalah bentuk yang sama pada SMP, tempt anak saya mendaftar. Lembaga itu adalah yang dipilih anak saya, dan saya mengamini pilihannya pada SMP tersebut dengan satu alasan: Perpaduan program ICP dengan Pendidikan Islam.
Hanya saja, ternyata juga banyak madrasah yang belum memiliki program strategis yang akan menjadi lompatan besar menuju pencapaian visi besar mereka. Tentu saja, kealpaan program strategis pada madrasah itu sebuah kerugian bagi warga madrasah. Tidak usah dalam jangka panjang, secara kasat mata, kerugian itu sudah nampak: kondisi infrastruktur yang kian hari kian usang. Tim madrasah harus segera bertindak. Tugas utama pertama adalah membangkitkan tim madrasah. Setelah bangkit, tim madrasah harus melihat kembali EDM-RKM untuk melihat sudah sejauh mana mereka saat ini berada. Tentu saja, rencana besar dan program strategis perlu perlu tim handal untuk implementasikannya. Bila tidak, makin lama madrasah akan redup dan tak mampu lagi menyinari masyarakatnya.
Tentu saja ini bukan pekerjaan mudah. Kalau saja membangun madrasah hebat adalah pekerjaan mudah yang bisa dikerjakan sambil lalu, tentu sudah berserakan lembaga-lembaga pendidikan yang hebat di sekitar kita, apalagi di daerah terpencil. Sayangnya, komitmen yang militan dan radikal diperlukan untuk jihad ini.
